Ahimsa starts with full consciousness of the present moment. To anchor ourselves and to focus on one thing at a time, the breath is an excellent tool.

Try this exercise:
Sit comfortably in silence.
Breathe deeply through the nose.
Focus your attention on the pause between the inhale and the exhale.
Keep repeating during a few minutes.
Observe the clearing of the mind and body.
